Robot Calculator Is Sure To Become Supreme Leader Of Your Desk

It’s time for all those other novelty calculators sitting on your desk to watch their backs because this Robot Calculator is sure to take some names, kick some butt and perform some basic arithmetic functions. But that’s not all! His movable arms and clamp hands allow him to hold pens, pencils and other stabbing weapons and a magnetic disc on his back ensures an arsenal of paperclips and tacks is always within easy reach.
He’s currently available from Perpetual Kid for just $14.99 but I have to admit I’m a bit confused as to why the website refers to him as the ‘Galactic Edition’? Maybe a calculator this advanced could only come from outer space

NANC-E takes care of your infant with large metal claws

If you’ve ever needed a break from your kids, the NANC-E Nannybot from Buy n Large is ready, willing, and able to take over. NANC-E is will automatically feed and ’stimulate’ your newborn child, while continuously monitoring health and happiness levels. And don’t worry, no unauthorized person or animal may approach NANC-E without providing the correct verbal cue, lest (I can only assume) some sort of defensive mode is activated. Find out where to get a NANC-E for your children at the Buy n Large website.

BOTS AT HOME: iROBOT DEBUTS LOOJ & CONNECT R

It turns out that iRobot is really serious about getting robots into every home. The new ConnectR and Looj bots should help to speed up that reality. We told you about the Looj a while back, when it was just a few images filed with the FCC. It’s the strange bot with the appliance-like handle that cleans your gutter like a not so cool looking tank. The propeller ejects the debris. You can get your hands on one today for $99.
The ConnectR is far more interesting. And unlike iRobot’s other offerings, this one will not remove dirt from anything. What it will do is allow you to “virtually visit” friends and family through WiFi, by controlling the bot remotely. It even boasts live video and audio. The camera even has tilt and zoom action. They are claiming that the zoom mode is of a high enough resolution to read text. Want to convey a certain mood? Just transmit your voice through the bot, and control an LED light to convey different moods. The ConnectR robot launches sometime next year for $499, but they will have a pilot program for a price of $199 for select beta-testing users.

SWORDS-LESSLIKELY TO KILL U

It hasn’t been very long since SWORDS battle bots started to see some real use in Iraq, and already Foster-Miller has a newer, safer version of their TALON SWORDS. The MAARS (Modular Advanced Armed Robotic System) platform is designed from the ground up for combat, but with modular features to let operators adapt the robot for different missions. For example, the treads can be swapped out for wheels (making it 50% faster than its 5mph predecessor), and the weapons payload can be exchanged for a manipulator arm.
The biggest change has been to the fire control system. New software controls allow operators to designate no-fire zones, and the robot is not allowed to fire directly at its own control unit, eliminating about a thousand potential killer robot storylines. The addition of a GPS transmitter allows the new SWORDS to interact with American battlefield mapping programs, allowing commanders to see where the robots are in relation to other friendly forces. Here’s a short video of MAARS looking agile:
