BOTS AT HOME: iROBOT DEBUTS LOOJ & CONNECT R

It turns out that iRobot is really serious about getting robots into every home. The new ConnectR and Looj bots should help to speed up that reality. We told you about the Looj a while back, when it was just a few images filed with the FCC. It’s the strange bot with the appliance-like handle that cleans your gutter like a not so cool looking tank. The propeller ejects the debris. You can get your hands on one today for $99.
The ConnectR is far more interesting. And unlike iRobot’s other offerings, this one will not remove dirt from anything. What it will do is allow you to “virtually visit” friends and family through WiFi, by controlling the bot remotely. It even boasts live video and audio. The camera even has tilt and zoom action. They are claiming that the zoom mode is of a high enough resolution to read text. Want to convey a certain mood? Just transmit your voice through the bot, and control an LED light to convey different moods. The ConnectR robot launches sometime next year for $499, but they will have a pilot program for a price of $199 for select beta-testing users.
